Gr 4-8-This series details topics of interest written at a level to support struggling readers. Short chapters feature challenge words defined in the text. The engaging photos will hold the attention of readers as they explore the latest information about black holes or the search for extraterrestrial life. The "Women in Science" section features a different expert in each book, such as specialists at NASA or the director general of CERN. "It's (Almost) Rocket Science" highlights innovative technology, including the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and the Mars Rover. Each title provides the directions for a science experiment using household items. VERDICT An excellent hi-lo series for intermediate and middle school readers.
