The mother of a prominent Portland psychiatrist is missing. The commissioner assigns the case to Homicide Detective Elaine Mathis, the department's most experienced investigator. How difficult could it be to find a terminal cancer patient who has wandered away from a hospice center? As it turns out, Rose is more elusive than Mathis anticipated. To complicate matters, the discovery of a body in a nearby lake points to one of Portland's most distinguished citizens.
