Thought for the Weak

Thought for the Weak started as a regular column in the Free Press newspaper by the Reverend Preben Andersen. Now the best of his popular writings have been gathered into this treasury.

Preben's column was beautifully Christian but with a gentle and often humorous style, attracting readers exploring faith and those unfamiliar with the Christian message, as well as followers of Jesus. His writings often draw on current national and local events for stories and illustrations, but his messages are firmly based on Scripture and are as relevant to us now as they were to the local community when they were written.

Find yourself at times amused, at times moved, at once challenged and encouraged, as you dig into this nourishing collection.

Thought for the Weak sums up Preben Andersen. He is thoughtful of all, and especially those who are marginalized and on the edges of society. Each story oozes the 'Great Dane's' consideration of real people, dogs, and the joy of being alive, all etched with his whimsical humour and good cheer. Not the fairy-tales of Hans Christian, but the lived life and faith of Reverend Andersen.

Rev. Gordon Greswell

Having had monthly articles to prepare for a newspaper, I sympathise with Preben's monthly brain-drain to think of something interesting, and something that will keep the reader willing to finish to the bottom of the page. With Thought for the Weak, Preben Andersen has managed this beautifully. Woven into his monthly offering, his homespun stories of life, with current affairs, humour and a little bit of religion slipped in, make for an enjoyable and sometimes thought-provoking interval in the day. To include humour in religion of any sort, is an art only practised by a few wise writers. Surely our God or Gods, whoever they may be, must see the funny side of human life, or we would never have the joy of family life, or of companionship or the ability to laugh. I recommend Thought for the Weak, not to be read at one 'go', but sipped like a fine wine, enjoyed drop by drop.
