Reflect on bite-sized Bible readings that provoke thought and deepen understanding
'We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice,' states the first of The Salvation Army's 11 doctrines of faith.
Just as all Salvationists accept that holy Scripture is divinely inspired, so too have theologians and writers been inspired to interpret the teachings of God's Word. This edition of Words of Life, titled 'Inspired by God', contains work from several Salvationist authors who have sought to explain Scripture in books and Bible studies.
They write about being loved by God, Christ's teachings in the Gospels, the Christian's relationship with Jesus, freedom in Christ and encouragement found in some psalms.
The weekend devotions are prayer-poems – conversations with God – which provide spiritual insights from life's varied experiences. Our guest writer for this Advent edition is Major Pamela Shiridzinodya from Zambia, who prepares us for the celebration of Christmas – when 'the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us' (John 1:14).
