Celeste is doing her best to get used to her new life in Cripley Hollow. She's made friends with Acacia, the girl next door, and the imp who lives in the cellar. She's really trying to learn the magic her mother is trying to teach her.
When Celeste and her mother go into town for the first time, Celeste is amazed at all the wonderful things she sees. The woman in the candy store pulls taffy while it floats in the air! And books! There are tons of books at Cortis and Reins bookstore. Maybe Cripley Hollow won't be so bad after all.

Unsure whether she'll ever fit in, Celeste tries her hand at magic. But it doesn't go as expected. Now Celeste has to find a way out of the mess she created.
