There is no other place in Italy where an English-language menu is available, so it only works there.
Italy has some of the best food in the world, but there are still some restaurants that serve terrible food. Avoid restaurants with an English menu outside at all costs if you want to eat really good Italian food (especially if they also have food pictures!).
There are likely to be some dishes there that you are familiar with or at least believe you understand the ingredients for, which may tempt you to visit.
Keep in mind that restaurants with Italian menus are the only places to find the best Italian cuisine.
In the same vein, stay away from eating near tourist attractions. Avoid sitting next to the Trevi fountain or the Colosseum because there are lots of hidden gems that are frequently only a few steps away.
Similar to the advice above, if spaghetti bolognese is on the menu, leave immediately! Moreover, sprint at the speed of light!
