Rebecca Hardy is frustrated with her life on a provincial newspaper, so she crosses the Atlantic to live and work among the literary greats in Paris at the end of the 1920s. Through her Parisian girlfriend, she encounters a lifestyle unlike anything she'd experienced back home and often finds herself conflicted as she encounters romantic situations she wasn't expecting when she first came to the City of Lovers. She eventually becomes involved with a spymaster in French military Intelligence and ends up helping him to out a Nazi double agent, which puts her life in danger. She survives a near death experience and discovers one thing for certain about herself: She was no longer that naive provincial girl that stepped off the boat back in the spring of 1929.
